Mission: It is our aim that all students endeavor to maintain academic success as the primary goal during their tenure at Bradford Central School.  We also recognize that participation in extra-curricular activities and athletics is a valuable addition to the educational experience and development of all students.

Application: These procedures shall remain applicable to ALL extracurricular activities and athletics including, but not limited to: athletic teams at the Varsity, JV, Modified, and Intramural levels; dances, social events and functions, clubs (ie: FBLA, equestrian club, chess club, military history club, speed-stacking, etc.); interscholastic competitions (ie: Academic All-Stars, spelling bee, architectural awareness, enviro-thon, etc.); and class activities.

Process:

1. On the first day of each week, teachers will place the name(s) of any student(s) whose performance in class is below passing into a database.

2. Any student that is failing two or more subjects during the same week will fall under the following levels and eligibility rules. Students are assigned to levels A, B, C, and D based on the weekly status of their academic averages.

3. Levels will be assigned based on whether the student is failing two or more classes, regardless of whether or not the failing classes are the same subjects the student was failing the previous week. (Example: Student is failing Math and Science in week 1, but is failing Physical Education and Social Studies in week 2, the student will proceed to level B because student is failing two or more classes in consecutive weeks.)

Level A) First week failing two or more subjects =
Student should make every attempt to improve class work to passing standards.
Coach / Advisor is aware of academic status.
This level is considered a WARNING Level for students.
**It is the responsibility of the student to notify parent/guardian of academic status.**

Level B) Second consecutive week failing two or more subjects =
Student should make every attempt to improve class work to passing standards.
Coach / Advisor is aware of academic status.
There will be notification to parents advising of academic status.
Student may practice / attend meetings but may not compete in any competitions or attend functions. (See clarification #4)

Level C) Third consecutive week failing two or more subjects =
Student should make every attempt to improve class work to passing standards.
Coach / Advisor is aware of academic status.
There will be notification to parents advising of academic status.
Student may not practice / attend meetings or compete in any competitions or attend functions.  (See clarification #4)

Level D) Fourth consecutive week failing two or more subjects =
Student should make every attempt to improve class work to passing standards.
Coach / Advisor is aware of academic status.
Student on athletic teams will be removed from the team for the remainder of the season.
Student participating in extracurricular clubs / activities will be removed from the activity for the remainder of the marking period. Please Note: Ineligibility removals are not subject to the 25% restrictions the following year for athletes.
Student may not attend competitions or school functions. (See clarification #4)

4. Students at all levels will remain in that status for a minimum of one week.

Clarifications:

  1. The eligibility procedures will be in effect from September until the end of May.
  2. The following events will be exempt from the eligibility procedures: Jr./Sr. Prom, Sr. Trip, Homecoming Dance, fundraising activities for class funds when the student’s participation is needed at the discretion of the advisor/principal.
  3. Students will remain in the level status from the previous week over any school vacations/breaks. Students will also remain in the level of status from the previous week during an extended absence due to illness. A doctor's excuse must be provided for such extended illness and the student will need to make up all class/course work and assignments in the time frame outlined in the student handbook.
  4. Students in Levels B, C, and D may only attend school functions provided they are accompanied by their own parent or guardian. The student must remain seated with the parent or guardian.
  5. Students that frequently appear on the eligibility document as failing two or more subjects may be subject to academic intervention.

This procedure will not replace or eliminate 5 week progress reports.
